Buckingham: Windows, Siding & Roofing Project
Dear Nuden:
Our home was built in 1963 and we are the original owners. Over the intervening years we have not had to do any major renovations, except for changing some of the windows. Our house was originally covered with stucco. Due to the fact that the stucco was cracked in many places, we decided to do something about this situation. In 1985, we found out about a company called Nuden Vinyl Products. A representative came and gave us a very decent bid on the job. That included removing all the stucco from the house and the garage, covering the same area with one-half inch Styrofoam sheeting and finishing it off with Nuden siding, Sierra Brown in color.
In 1988 we had need of some window replacement. The old wooden-frame window in the basement was replaced by double-glazed siding window panels. The outside frame was covered with aluminum, the inside frame done in mahogany.
In the same year, we had to have a leaky window in the pool room (solarium) changed to a sealed-type window by Nuden. No problem since. Also, that same year, we had Nuden build an awning over the single window and door on the east side of the pool room. The roof of the awning was shingled.
In 2003, we had Nuden remove the old picture window at the front of the house and replace it with a low-e and argon-filled window. We now have one wide window in the centre and two narrow side windows, which may be opened for ventilation. Also, at the same time, we had the six windows in the pool room replaced with the same type of windows as in the living room.
In October 2003, we decided to re-shingle the whole house, as the existing shingles were looking bad. Again, we asked Nuden for advice, and they suggested that we install aluminum shingles. We decided that is what we would do, and be done with roofing for the rest of our lives. Two good men did the entire job in about four days and that was very good time, considering the time of year and the cold weather. The color of the panels is Forest Green.
During the first winter with the new roof, we discovered that snow does not stay on the roof during a warm spell. It slid off onto our driveway and the neighbor’s driveway. Back to Nuden again. They had a solution for this problem in the form of polar blocks. This solved the problem very well. Two of the blocks broke off due to a heavy load of ice in the valley between the house and the garage roof, but Nuden replaced the blocks during the summer and all has been well since.
All the above work has been done in a very professional manner and all the workmen are very good at their jobs. Also, after the jobs are finished, there is no debris left lying around and the grounds are the same as before the job started.
I am sorry that I cannot remember names of all the workmen who did all these jobs for us, but they were all very pleasant and knew their jobs well. There is one name that I do remember – Luc Lachapelle. He is the young fellow who kept his eyes on proceedings and made certain that we were satisfied with the results. When the men had just removed the picture window, Luc had arrived to check the job and he was just in time to have a piece of birthday cake and a coffee. That day happened to be my 75th birthday.
Thank you to all your good men who did such good work for us.
Yours truly,
Mr. & Mrs. Ivan Connelly
